How to Park Near the Union

There are many parking options near the Michigan Union, including structures for U-M staff with Blue or Gold permits, city structures for visitors, and limited on-street metered parking.

Parking on the U-M campus can be challenging. We strongly recommend giving yourself plenty of time to park and walk to the Union to ensure a smooth start to your day.

Permit Parking:

• Thompson St. Structure (W3) - Blue or Gold permit required. This is the closest parking, located directly behind the Union. There are two entrances: one on Thompson St. and one on Division St. About a 3-minute walk.
• Ford School S5 Lot - Blue or Gold permit required. Entrance on Oakland St. About a 5–7 minute walk to the Union.
• Thayer Structure (N4) - Blue or Gold permit required. Entrance on Thayer St. About an 8-minute walk to the Union.
• Hill St. Structure (S8) – Blue or Gold permit required. Located next to Ross with an entrance on Hill St. About a 9-minute walk to the Union.
• Church St. Structure (E8) - Blue or Gold permit required. Entrance off Church St. About a 10-minute walk to the Union.

Public Parking:

• Maynard St. City Public Parking Lot - The closest public parking option, located in the State Street area. Entrances on Maynard St. and Thompson St. Approximately a 3–5 minute walk to the Union.
• Forest St. City Public Parking and Blue Lot - Located about a half-mile from the Union. Approximately a 10–12 minute walk. Note: the Blue lot entrance is on Willard St. and can be easy to miss.

Metered Parking:

• Metered parking is limited in the immediate area. There is no longer street parking available on State Street near the Union.
• Nearby metered spaces typically allow up to four-hour increments. Please plan accordingly or use the ePark Ann Arbor app to manage your time.
